California Historical Landmarks:
are buildings, structures, sites, or places that have statewide significance. The Golden Gate Bridge started in 1933 and completed in 1937 by engineer Joseph Strauss and architect Irving Morrow is an extraordinarily beautiful bridge with the greatest attention to artistic detail. This world renowned bridge's 4,200 feet of clear span (from tower to tower) was the longest in the world until 1959. Yosemite National Park, one of the first wilderness parks in the United States, is best known for its waterfalls, but within its nearly 1,200 square miles, you can find deep valleys, grand meadows, ancient giant sequoias, and vast wilderness area.

Keeping Californians Safe

California could soon see the early release of up to 40,000 serious and repeat criminals into communities across California. Visit our “Keeping Californians Safe” website to learn how a prison population cap could affect your community and find out what Assembly Republicans are doing to keep criminals behind bars.

New Anti-Sexual Predator Legislation

Assemblyman Smyth discusses Legislation he is introducing which will make it illegal to post pictures of minors on pornographic websites. This legislation is in response to recent incidents in and around the Southern California area in which predators have attended high school water polo matches as well as swim meets, with the sole purpose of taking pictures of the young athletes and posting them on compromising adult websites.

Protect Children From Surrogate Stalkers

Recent actions by self-described pedophile, Jack McClellan, have further exposed the vulnerability of our children to predators and exposed a gap in California law that leaves law enforcement without the necessary tools to arrest this abhorrent behavior before it escalates. I am working on legislation to address this serious problem.

Businesses and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

This July we celebrate the 17th anniversary of the enactment of the ADA, which affirmed the civil rights of millions of Americans with disabilities. During that time progress has been made toward more accessible communities, yet implementation of the ADA in California has not always met expectations. That is why I am proud to be joint authoring SB 1608 – a comprehensive, bi-partisan ADA package designed to increase ADA compliance and reduce the need for litigation. Please see the following links for more information about this package:

July is Access Awareness Month – In an effort to help businesses comply with California’s access laws I developed a brochure that offers practical steps you can start taking immediately to make your business more accessible.
