Last week, I delivered over 1,500 of your letters of support for the biggest taxpayer protection bill (AB 1506) to the Chairman of the Appropriations Committee. (See video under "Multimedia")
Your letters and voices came through loud and clear and generated momentum that carried onto the Assembly floor where AB 1506 passed unanimously! (See video above).
Now we're in the homestretch - only 4 days from victory. But to become law, the Senate has to pass AB 1506 before the legislative year ends this Friday.
Since July 1st the state has sent out over 448,000 IOUs to people and businesses totaling $2.35 billion. I wrote AB1506 so that it would force the state to accept its own IOU's as payment - saving the State, businesses and taxpayers millions of dollars. It is the right thing to do - it's fair as well as fiscally sound - 68 of my colleagues from both sides of the aisle have asked to join me as co-authors.
But there are doubters and nay-sayers working to derail AB 1506 - every time we try to make our state accountable we face an uphill battle. But we must not be deterred. We all know that this is the best way you and I can get California back on its feet.
That is why we must spread the word and redouble our efforts. We need more letters to show the Senate the will of the people. We need our family and friends to act immediately.
