The Office of Strategic Information
Services has researched and prepared this report detailing the results
for Propositions 55-58 by Assembly District from the March 2 primary election.
The information was accessed from the vote canvasses of the individual

Executive
Summary
- Proposition 55 (School Bonds) carried
in 44 Assembly Districts (AD's) by margins ranging from 75%-25% in AD
46 (Nunez-D) to 50.3%-49.7% in AD 61 (Negrete-McLeod-D).
- Forty-one of the 44 AD's carried
by Prop. 55 are held by Democrats and three are held by Republicans
- AD's 80 (Garcia/55%-45%), 15 (Houston/52%-48%) and 64 (Benoit/51%-49%).
- Six of the 11 Democrat-held AD's
where Prop. 55 "Yes" vote exceeded 60% overlap the urban "core"
areas of the Los Angeles Metro region - AD's 46 (Nunez/75%-25%), 48
(Ridley-Thomas/70%-30%), 52 (Dymally/67%-33%), 45 (Goldberg/67%-33%),
47 (Wesson/63%-37%), 50 (Firebaugh/61%-39%). Five of the districts overlap
with the San Francisco Bay Area - AD's 13 (Leno/74%-26%), 14 (Hancock/69%-31%),
16 (Chan/68%-32%), 12 (Yee/65%-35%) and 23 (Diaz/64%-36%).
- Prop. 55 failed in seven Democrat-held
districts -- AD's 1 (Berg/49.7-50.3%), 40 (Levine/44%-56%), 43 (Frommer/49.6%-50.4%),
44 (Liu/49%-51%), 53 (Nakano/48%-52%), 54 (Lowenthal/45%-55%) and 76
(Kehoe/49.5%-50.5%).
- Proposition 56 ("55% Majority
Passage: Tax Hikes/Budget") failed in 75 AD's, including all 32
GOP-held AD's. It only carried in Democrat-held AD's 13 (Leno/60%-40%),
14 (Hancock/53%-47%), 16 (Chan/53%-47%), 31 (Reyes/60%-40% and 46 (Nunez/53%-47%).
- Proposition 57 ("Economic
Recovery Bond Act") carried in 79 AD's by margins ranging from
74%-26% in AD 75 (Plescia) to 51%-49% in AD 16 (Chan) and failed by
a 47%-53% margin in AD 13 (Leno).
- The eleven AD's where Proposition
57 "Yes" vote was 70% or higher are held by Republicans and
overlap either with the San Diego or Inland Empire Regions - AD's 75
(Plescia/74%-26%), 77 (La Suer/74%-26%), 66 (Haynes/73%-27%), 74 (Wyland/73%-27%),
64 (Benoit/71%-29%), 63 (Dutton/71%-29%), 36 (Runner/71%-29%), 59 (Mountjoy/71%-29%),
73 (Bates/70%-30%), 65 (Bogh/70%-30%) and 78 (Horton/70%-30%).
- Proposition 58 ("Balanced Budget
Act") prevailed in all 80 AD's by margins ranging from 81%-19%
in AD 75 (Plescia-R) to 56%-44% in AD 8 (Wolk-D)
